What's more, this is wonderful music from women who held no boundaries. Four CDs are devoted to the more obscure female singers of the early blues era, with Clara Smith, Lucille Bogan and Lil Johnson appearing on the first three. The fourth CD is shared by Moanin' Bernice Edwards, who also recorded only 14 tracks, and four other blues women from Texas: Hociel Thomas, Sippie Wallace, Bessie Tucker and Victoria Spivey.
