The fourth volume of the Géza Anda edition with recordings from the archives of the Westdeutscher Rundfunk Cologne is devoted exclusively to the music of Béla Bartók, which Géza Anda championed from the beginning of his career and, in the case of his piano concertos, helped him to make a definitive breakthrough with the public. The first two piano concertos are presented as impressive live recordings from 1952 (with Ferenc Fricsay) and 1957 (with Michael Gielen), both accompanied by the Cologne Radio Orchestra. Ando's chamber inclinations and qualities in interplay with his world-famous Hungarian colleagues are documented in two recordings from 1953. His partner on second piano in the Sonata for two pianos and percussion was none other than Georg Solti and in the Contrasts violinist Tibor Varga (and also Paul Blöcher on clarinet). This CD and edition concludes with soloist Géza Anda once again giving a stirring performance of the Suite for Piano Op. 14 from 1955.
