Great artists from three generations of Chicago blues breathed fresh air into the songs of the Rolling Stones from a decade ago at Chicago Plays The Stones. They include Buddy Guy, Billy Boy Arnold, Billy Branch and more. Special guests Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The Rolling Stones have been celebrating this sound since the 1960s, but in 2016 they released Blue and Lonesome, which finally paid tribute to Chicago's signature blues. The urban and electrifying sound of Chicago blues was taken up by rock 'n' rollers in the 1950s and even more so by the Rolling Stones in the mid-1960s. Blues greats like Muddy Waters and Buddy Guy recognized and benefited from the Rolling Stones' openly expressed admiration, and a kindred spirit across continents was born. This gave birth to the idea for Chicago Plays the Stones even before the Stones announced Blue and Lonesome. At the time, producer Larry Skoller and co-producer and arranger Vincent Bucher were already working on Chicago blues cover versions of Rolling Stones songs from the '60s through the '90s.
