Songs of Innocence, released in September 2014, is the thirteenth studio album by Irish rock band U2. The album was announced at a press conference with Apple CEO Tim Cook on July 9, 2014, and was automatically given away to all iTunes customers on September 9, 2014 as part of a promotion for the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The album was produced by Danger Mouse, with additional producers Paul Epworth, Ryan Tedder, Declan Gaffney and Flood. The release of the album was met with mixed reactions. While some praised the band for releasing the album for free to all iTunes customers, others criticized the band for automatically including the album in their music library without their consent. The first single from the album, "The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)", was released on July 14, 2014. The second single from the album, "Every Breaking Wave", was released on November 11, 2014. The third single from the album, "Song for Someone", was released on May 4, 2015. The fourth single from the album, "Iris (Hold Me Close)", was released on September 11, 2015. The album's fifth and final single, "The Troubles", was released in December 2015.
