Pop was released in 1997 and was U2's eleventh studio album, produced by Flood, Howie B and Steve Lillywhite and recorded in Dublin and London. The album departed from the band's earlier work and contained elements of electronica and dance music. The album Pop was met with mixed reviews from critics and was commercially unsuccessful in the United States. However, the album was successful in Europe and went double platinum in the United Kingdom. The album spawned four singles, "Discotheque", "Staring at the Sun", "Last Night on Earth" and "Please".
