Britská progrocková skupina Alan Parsons Project působila v letech 1975-1990. Jádro tvořené Ericem Wollfsonem a Alanem Parsonsem si opakovaně přibíralo různé session hudebníky.
Původně se setkali v létě 1974 v kantýně studií Abbey Road. Parsons již pracoval jako asistent na albech "Abbey Road" a "Let It Be" skupiny Beatles a právě pracoval jako zvukař na albu "The Dark Side Of The Moon" skupiny Pink Floyd. Woolfson, textař a skladatel, pracoval jako session pianista.
"I Robot" je jejich druhé album a bylo nahráno v roce 1977. Původně mělo být založeno na příbězích "Já, robot" autora sci-fi Isaaca Asimova, který si tento nápad velmi oblíbil. Práva na tyto příběhy však již vlastnila televizní společnost, a tak se v názvu alba upustilo od čárky a texty byly obecně o robotech.
