Queen II is an album by British rock band Queen , released on 8 March 1974. It was the band's second album and first with bassist John Deacon. The album was recorded at Trident Studios in London, England and was produced by Roy Thomas Baker and Queen . The album was a critical and commercial success, reaching number five on the UK Albums Chart and number 43 on the US Billboard 200. The album was certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry Association and the Recording Industry Association of America.The album contains the band's first two hit singles, "Seven Seas of Rhye" and "Killer Queen ". The latter single became the group's first top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States, where it reached number ten. Queen Album II has been praised by music critics since its release. In a retrospective review, Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic called it "an album that is as ambitious as it is accomplished, and one of the defining documents of early 1970s British hard rock".
