Discover your favourite tracks like "Guitar", "Chelsea Rodgers" and the Grammy-nominated "Future Baby Mama" brand new on standard purple vinyl! Prince was known for his innovative release strategies. He has showcased his sound online at his NPG Music Club or in 2004, he gave away a free album to Musicology Tour ticket buyers. In 2007, he came up with a groundbreaking idea and distributed his new album Planet Earth for free through the UK's Mail on Sunday newspaper: on 15 July 2007, readers of the paper received a copy of Planet Earth as an insert. Another powerful promotional tool was a series of 21 concerts held at the O2 Arena in London at the time. Here too, fans received free copies of the album and the huge buzz around the artist's new work ensured that all the concerts at the 20,000-capacity arena were sold out. A record that is still unsurpassed to this day, and one that only Michael Jackson, who wanted to break the streak before he died just as unexpectedly and could no longer attempt it, dared to approach. As was the case with 2006's Abum 3121, Planet Earth involved former and future collaborators. The album features Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman and Sheila E., musicians who successfully accompanied Prince as the backing band for "The Revolution" in the 1980s. Also on board is the rhythm section of the original New Power Generation - Michael Bland and Sonny Thompson. In addition, you'll hear vocals from Twinz, Maya and Nandy McLean, who served as dancers and backing singers in the mid-2000s, as well as Bria Valente, Prince's protégé whose own 2009 album the star produced. The "free" distribution cost Prince chart success in England because copies distributed in this way were not counted. However, wherever Planet Earth sold, it managed to conquer the top positions. In Germany, the album climbed into the Top 10 and reached number 7, while in the US it even reached number 3. The single "Guitar" also became a media hit, a fan favourite and a Top 40 hit in Greece, Italy, the Netherlands and Japan and is now undoubtedly one of Prince's classics. The song "Future Baby Mama" even won a Grammy Award in the Best Male R&B Performance category.
Album spans genres Rock, Pop, Funk / Soul, Soul and Soft Rock. Lenticular Cover Coloured Purple & Black Marbled Translucent Vinyl Limited Edition.
