Prince's 2004 album Musicology was a return to form for an artist who had experimented with different sounds and styles in previous years. The album was a blend of old-school funk and soul with modern production, and critics praised it for its timeless sound. Prince wrote and produced all the songs on the album and played most of the instruments himself. The album Musicology was a commercial success, reaching number one on the Billboard 200 chart and selling over two million copies.
