Neil Young ties up his anger "The Monsanto Years" is Neil Young's new album for 2015. After last year's experiment with Voice-O-Graph and a large orchestra, "The Monsanto Years" features a smaller band lineup once again. Thematically, Young, who turns 70 in October, is again deft. Musical accompaniment on "The Monsanto Years" is provided by the five-piece rock band Promise of the Real. They've already played several shows with Neil Young and Willie Nelson. Lukas and Micah Nelson, who play guitar and sing with Promise of the Real, are the sons of Willie Nelson. The Nelson brothers have given the new album a foundation in energetic garage rock. In addition to harmonica, many guitars can be heard in acoustic or electrically distorted versions. Neil Young has been a co-organizer and regular at the annual Farm Aid benefit concert for some time. Farm Aid has made it their mission to support and preserve family farms in the USA. Young has also been active against fracking and for Indian rights. Neil Young dedicated an entire concept album, "The Monsanto Years" to environmentalism and protecting small farmers from large corporations. Neil Young identifies Monsanto as a major opponent. Monsanto produces seeds and herbicides and uses genetic engineering. Their best known product is the herbicide glyphosate, sold as Roundup. Neil Young sees the existence of small farmers threatened by the agricultural giant's monopoly and growing practices. In his fight against genetic engineering, he also attacks the coffee chain Starbucks for its links to Monsanto. There are no signs of ageism. In the song "The Monsanto Years", Neil Young rails against big business. He sings uncompromisingly and with honest feeling about issues that affect us all.
