Miles Davis: Seven Steps To Heaven version on vinyl 2LP in 45 RPM Remastered edition. This particular edition was published in USA in publishing company Analogue Productions in cooperation with Columbia on 20. July 2010.

When his quintet broke up and a West Coast tour was planned, Miles hired George Coleman, who had been recommended to him by John Coltrane, and Ron Carter, a young graduate of the Manhattan School of Music who was very active on the New York scene. Frank Butler, then the best black drummer in L.A., a sort of Philly Joe Jones on the West Coast, and Victor Feldman, an English pianist, joined them on the recording sessions. The band's repertoire reflected Feldman's influence. He composed "Joshua", contributed to "Seven Steps To Heaven", and recommended "So Near, So Far", composed by two British compatriots. However, only three of the four ballads (performed by the quartet without saxophone) made it onto the album. Miles re-recorded the other three more spirited tracks with Tony Williams, a young drummer he had discovered through Jackie McLean when he returned to New York. Victor Feldman remained in California and Herbie Hancock completed this new quintet. For two days Miles listened to their rehearsal over the intercom in his apartment. On the third day, he joined them and brought them into the studio the next day. He knew this group would captivate the audience. In 1963, Miles Davis was in a transitional period of his career, without a permanent band, and wondering what direction he might take musically in the future. That's when he recorded the music we hear on this album. He was forming a new band, as can be seen in the line-up of George Coleman - tenor sax, Victor Feldman (who declined) and Herbie Hancock - piano, Ron Carter - bass, Frank Butler and Tony Williams - drums. The recording was made in two sessions and highlights include the classics "Seven Steps To Heaven", "Joshua" and slow, passionate versions of "Basin Street Blues" and "Baby Won't You Please Come Home".
