"Milestones" was recorded on April 2 and 3, 1958. "My intention," wrote Miles Davis in his autobiography, "was to continue with this sextet what we had already started with Trane, Red, Paul and myself, only I wanted to add the bluesy voice of Cannonball Adderley and thus expand the whole thing. I could imagine Cannonball's bluesy alto sax against Trane's harmonic, chordal playing, his looser way of improvising, which created a whole new feel, a new sound." This 1958 masterpiece captures early jazz experiments such as "Straight, No Chaser" and the title track. Both the song and the album became true jazz milestones, as the title states, that significantly influenced jazz with a worldwide reach.
