"Four & More" was recorded on February 12, 1964 in New York City on the same night as the ballad "My Funny Valentine" and is the upbeat and upbeat part of this live performance. At the sold-out concert, "Four & More" was inspired by the rhythm section of pianist Herbie Hancock with Ron Carter on bass and especially the cross-rhythm of drumming genius Tony Williams. Session saxophonist George Coleman, known as "The Memphis Monster," even plays solos on tenor saxophone, playing better than he did during his brief stint in Miles' band in the early '60s. Completely remastered and remixed, "Four & More" has never sounded so live in its original form.
