Max Richter is one of the most influential musical voices of our time. He has reached and inspired millions of listeners around the world with his groundbreaking works such as SLEEP, Vivaldi Recomposed and his latest VOICES, inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as his soundtracks for major Hollywood blockbusters. On his new album, he once again thoughtfully and inspiringly addresses the big questions of our time. Exile began a decade ago with the hope brought by the Arab Spring. Deeply moved by the tragedy of the migration crisis, he decided to translate his compassion into a ballet score of the same name for Nederlands Dans Theater and its house choreographers Sol Leon and Paul Lightfoot: "Composing is a way for me to talk about things that touch me. (Max Richter) The album, which includes brand new orchestral versions of some of his best-known earlier works, was recorded in 2019 in Tallinn by Kristjan Järvi with the Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra, an orchestra that prides itself on promoting cross-border unity and artistic innovation. Among the newly arranged pieces is perhaps one of his most famous compositions, On the Nature of Daylight (Blue Notebooks), known from films and TV series such as Arrival, The Handmaid's Tale and Shutter Island. Other new orchestral versions include The Haunted Ocean (Waltz with Bashir), Infra 5 (Infra), Sunlight from his album Songs from Before (a David Bowie favourite) and, last but not least, the previously unreleased Flowers of Herself from Woolf Works. "Music has its own voice in culture. It is part of the conversation about how we should live. That's creativity. When you create something, you're trying to explore an issue or look at some aspect of our world and comment on it or get people to think about it and discuss it.
