Script for a Jester's Tear is the debut album by British rock band Marillion , released in 1983. The album reached number seven on the UK Albums Chart. It was certified Silver by the British Phonographic Industry on 1 January 1985 and has been certified Gold by the BPI since 1 January 2004. The album was recorded at The Farm residential studio in Surrey, England and produced by Nick Tauber. The album artwork was designed by Mark Wilkinson, who also created the band's logo. The album's title track, "Script for a Jester's Tear", was released as the album's lead single in December 1982. The song reached number thirteen in the UK singles chart. The album's second single, "He Knows You Know", was released in April 1983. The song reached number sixty-six on the UK Singles Chart. The album's third and final single, "Incommunicado", was released in August 1983. The song reached number 48 on the UK Singles Chart. The album was well received by music critics. In a retrospective review, Eduardo Rivadavia of AllMusic wrote.
