Jean-Michel Jarre kicked off the new year with a groundbreaking live concert performance in the virtual environment of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. The live show combined realistic concert visuals in VR with a real live performance in the studio. The groundbreaking production left many viewers unsure which parts were real and which were virtual. To date, 75 million viewers and virtual visitors from around the world have seen the concert. Viewership data comes from a variety of platforms, including VR platforms VRChat and Oculus Venues, national and international television and radio, and social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Weibo, Bilibili, and Douyin. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has made the event available free of charge to its national television and radio partners around the world. The film Welcome to the Other Side was produced on New Year's Eve in collaboration with VRrOO, the City of Paris and under the auspices of UNESCO, and has become the official midnight film and countdown from Paris. The impressive number of viewers continues to grow as the entire event is available online. Jean-Michel Jarre performed live from Studio Gabriel near Paris Cathedral while his avatar played in a virtual Notre Dame. The 50-minute concert, which featured tracks from Jarre's latest album Electronica and new, reworked versions of his classic songs Oxygène and Equinoxe, gave the world a virtual glimpse of the legendary monument in a futuristic and festive setting. The 50-minute multimedia project was designed, created and realized in a record three months. A team of hundreds of artists and technicians created Notre-Dame de Paris, creating a masterpiece that combines different formats and skills, and now the concert will be followed by a physical release on video and audio. This special experience will be released on LP and as a CD/Bluray set. In advance, a special snapshot of the show is available on July 23 with the divisive track "Herbalizer".
