Hudbu k filmu Avatar složil James Horner, který s Cameronem spolupracoval již na filmech Vetřelci a Titanic. Na vytvoření hudební kultury mimozemské rasy spolupracoval s etnomuzikoložkou Wandou Bryantovou. Titulní píseň "I See You" byla nahrána s britskou zpěvačkou Leonou Lewis.

"Avatar" je k dispozici jako 2LP na černém vinylu. Vychází v gatefoldovém obalu a obsahuje šestistránkový insert s poznámkami na obalu.
