There is no question that James Brown is the most important figure in black music. "Sex Machine" is often regarded as one of the greatest and most important funk records of all time and is arguably the pinnacle of Brown's creative heyday between 1967 and 1971.

The first five tracks of this album are studio recordings to which reverb and crowd noises have been added. The last ten tracks were recorded live at Bell Auditorium in Augusta, GA (except track 8). These recordings include "Soul Power", "Super Bad", "Talkin' Loud And Sayin' Nothing" and especially "(Get Up I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine" (feat. Bobby Byrd), which finds its final version in this "fake live cover"; the funkiest 10 minutes in the history of music!
