The magical appeal of metal Haken is making a statement in 2016 with the new album "Affinity". The title promises: it's about attraction and affection. In Haken's case, it is likely that they are attracted to melodic and technically challenging progressive metal. "Affinity" is the fourth studio album from the London-based band. It is also the first album to feature bassist Conner Green, who replaced Thomas MacLean in 2013. Otherwise, Haken still consists of vocalist Ross Jennings, guitarist and keyboardist Richard "Hen" Henshall, guitarist Charlie Griffiths, keyboardist Diego Tejeida and drummer Raymond Hearne. The only other support is on the song "The Architect", by guest Norwegian singer Einar Solberg of Leprous. The album was produced by Swede Jens Bogren. The new album features a total of nine tracks, which together clock in at an impressive 61 minutes. Apart from the opening and title track "affinity.exe", which has only 1 minute and 24 seconds as an intro, the other tracks are between 4 and 15 minutes long. This gives Haken plenty of time to develop musically on their new album, which they do. The first impression of this was already hinted at in advance by the single "Initiate". With their first three albums, Haken have made a name for themselves on the international progressive scene. With the product "Affinity" they are becoming indispensable. This album attracts magically.
