Flotsam and Jetsam is one of the icons of American metal. Bassist Jason Newsted also earned his spurs here before moving on to Metallica. The band from Phoenix (Arizona) has released a number of albums that define their style and have managed to constantly evolve, but always retain the essence of what Flotsam and Jetsam are all about. After three decades, the band around lead singer Eric "A.K." Knutson now present their new album, simply titled "Flotsam and Jetsam". On second glance, however, it's clear there's more behind it: after five months of writing, the band had 18 song ideas. Initially, a double release was considered, but the band realized they'd rather focus on an album full of "killer material", so any song ideas that didn't stand up to that requirement were scrapped. So the veterans' new album is not only the culmination of a year's worth of hard work, but through the title, it directly reflects how much Flotsam and Jetsam are defining themselves through their new work - and that they're damn proud of the twelve new songs.
