Einstürzende Neubauten: Lament version on vinyl 2LP in Standard edition. This particular edition was published in Europe in publishing company BMG on 10. November 2014.
"Lament" is the title of the new masterpiece by the Berlin cult group Einstürzende Neubauten, which was created for the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War. The Flemish city of Diksmuide commissioned Einstürzende Neubauten to work on the new album "Lament", which the West Berlin-based band released in 1980 as part of the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War. Einstürzende Neubauten don't consider "Lament" to be a pure studio album, but a documentation of the history of Diksmuide, where the work will premiere in November 2014 before going on tour with it. "Lament" contains many pre-existing elements, such as two pre-jazz songs by the marching band The Harlem Hellfighters, which was the first African-American unit sent into battle by the U.S. government. The album includes two lyrics by Belgian author Paul van den Broeck and a work by lesser-known German writer Joseph Plauts, who tells the story of World War I from the perspective of an animal. In addition, Blixa Bargeld sings a German version of Pete Seeger's anti-war song "Where Have All The Flowers Gone", which made Marlene Dietrich famous around the world with the song "Sag mir wo die Blumen sind". The band also resurrected the national anthem once used by warring countries like Germany, Britain and Canada. Finally comes the three-part title track, "Lament," which features a series of historic wax cylinder recordings. These were recorded at the time by linguists in German prison camps who forced their prisoners to recite the biblical passage about the "prodigal son" in their own language, many of which have since died out. Hovering above it all is a drastically slowed-down version of a motet by the 16th-century composer Jacob Clemens non Papa, who lived in Diksmuide. review "The Berlin Band once again enthrones itself on a high plane and remains an institution."
