Silver Lining Music will release 11 brilliant gems from the Don Dokken vaults under the title "The Lost Songs: 1978-1981." It was during these pivotal years that a young, motivated Dokken from Southern California came to Media Arts studios in Redondo Beach to compose several unfiltered, unpasteurized rock 'n' roll songs. These were then taken to Hamburg, Germany, where Dokken (influenced by bands like the Scorpions) formed a historic alliance with a young German producer named Michael Wagener, who would later help produce million-selling albums for bands like Motley Crüe, Metallica and Skid Row, as well as Dokken. From the scorched SoCal hook of "Step Into The Light" to the fierce Sunset Strip sound of "Back In The Streets," "The Lost Songs: 1978-1981" shows Dokken in the unbridled approach of his early days, proving once again the songwriting skills that helped him become an international rock 'n' roll star with more than 10 million albums sold. Other tracks like "Felony" carry a dense, fuzz-covered riff - think early Van Halen in greasy, embroidered jeans - while "Day After Day" shows that Dokken could write radio ballads, too. The result is a thrilling look back at the birth of Dokken and the realization that Don Dokken was lean, mean and hungry enough from the start to do it all in the years that followed.
