Death The third album Spiritual Healing was released in 1990 and is considered a classic of the death metal genre. The album was produced by Scott Burns and featured Chuck Schuldiner on guitar and vocals, bassist Terry Butler and drummer Bill Andrews. Schuldiner's brother Gene also played guitar on the album. Spiritual Healing is a concept album that explores the theme of healing the mind and body. Schuldiner has stated that the album was inspired by his own battle with cancer, which he was diagnosed with in 1988. The lyrics deal with the idea of overcoming personal struggles and finding inner peace. The music on the album is heavier and faster than the band's previous recordings and features Schuldiner's aggressive guitar playing and growling vocals. The songs are tightly written and feature intricate arrangements. Standout tracks on the album include "Lack of Comprehension", "Spiritual Healing" and "Living Monstrosity". Spiritual Healing is considered a classic album of the death metal genre and is cited by many bands as an influence.
