Chet Baker's talent as a trumpeter and singer is now well known. His trumpet and voice seem to be expressions of the same musical personality. The album was a revelation in its day and brought Baker new fame and a new audience that was less familiar with jazz than with pop music. The reasons are obvious: Chet's voice is smooth and beautiful, and yet his phrasing always resonates and surprises. Originally released as a ten-inch LP with eight songs, the success of this album soon led to its reissue, which was supplemented by the results of other later recordings.
