Camel was founded in 1971 in Guildford, Surrey, UK. Camel released four albums in its first period of existence, following a weak self-titled debut with "Mirage", "Snow Goose" and "Moonmadness", arguably the band's three most important recordings. "Moonmadness" is often cited as Camel's best album. Most of it has a "spacey" or "atmospheric" sound structure that is quite different from earlier Camel albums. It contains some impressive complex instrumental parts, echoes of electric guitars (perhaps in the style of Pink Floyd's Shine on You Crazy Diamond), and a marked shift towards synthesizers. This is a classic progressive album, although the music leans a bit towards fusion." (magenta.co.il/camel/)
