One of Art Blakey's best albums with the Jazz Messengers, Roots & Herbs, is little known. In 1961, the group included Lee Morgan (trumpet), Wayne Shorter (tenor sax), Bobby Timmons (piano) and Jymie Merritt (bass). The recording was made at Rudy Van Gelder's studio in New Jersey and is a brilliant set of six shorter pieces, such as the playful "Ping Pong" and the clever "United." It is one of Blakey's finest works. The Blue Note Tone Poet Series features fully analog, remastered 180g vinyl in a deluxe gatefold sleeve. Blue Note Tone Poet Series The Blue Note Tone Poet Series was born out of Blue Note President Don Wase's admiration for the exceptional audiophile reissues of Blue Note LPs released by Music Matters. He invited Joe Harley (of Music Matters), also known as "Tone Poet", to curate and oversee the series of reissues on the Blue Note label. Extreme attention to detail was paid in every possible way, from the packaging and print quality, to the excellent mastering of the LP (directly from the master tapes) by Kevin Gray, to the superb 180g audiophile pressing of the LP by Record Technology Inc. Every aspect of these Blue Note / Tone Poet releases is executed to the highest possible standard. That means you'll never find a better release. This is IT. The Tone Poet audiophile vinyl reissue series from Blue Note Records was produced by Joe Harley and features fully analog 180g audiophile vinyl reissues mastered from the original master tape in deluxe gatefold packaging. Mastering was done by Kevin Gray (Cohearent Audio) and the vinyl was pressed at Record Technology Incorporated (RTI).
