McCoy Tyner

McCoy Tyner

Legendary Jazz Pianist

McCoy Tyner was a highly influential jazz pianist known for his powerful style and innovative contributions to the genre. Born on December 11, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Tyner's career took off when he joined the John Coltrane Quartet in 1960. During his time with Coltrane, Tyner developed a distinctive approach to piano that would become a hallmark of his playing. His use of modal harmony and pentatonic scales, along with a left-hand technique that provided a rich, percussive underpinning to his right-hand melodies, set him apart from his contemporaries.
