On Metacritic, which assigns a standard rating out of 100 to reviews by mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 73, indicating a "generally favorable rating". Andy Kellman of AllMusic awarded the album four stars out of five, writing that "the collection is an excellent overview of Winehouse's short but brilliant career". Kellman added that "the new songs are as strong as anything on her two studio albums". The Guardian's Alexis Petridis gave the album four stars out of five, calling it "a reminder of what an extraordinary talent Winehouse was".
