London Classics

London Classics

This label page on Discogs is specifically for US classical releases with Decca-style blue and red "London" logos, as used from circa 1979 to 1999. The fact that it is separate from London Records is contentious; see forum discussion links below. Until 1999, the Decca Record Company Limited was not allowed to use its name in the United States, so everything released there used London branding and had the London Classics name in PolyGram's catalog, although this name rarely—if ever—appeared on the releases, and to add to the confusion, some of these releases were pressed in other territories. When the MCA and PolyGram families merged and created the Universal Music Group, the ownership of the Decca name was under one roof for the first time, and the London name did not need to be used any longer for this label.
