Thompson Twins

Thompson Twins

British New Wave/Pop Duo

Thompson Twins were a British pop band that achieved considerable success during the 1980s. Formed in 1977, the group initially started as a new wave ensemble with a large lineup but eventually pared down to a trio consisting of Tom Bailey, Alannah Currie, and Joe Leeway. They are best known for their catchy synthesizer-driven pop tunes and their peak period of success came with the release of their fifth album, "Into The Gap," in 1984. This album spawned several hit singles including "Doctor! Doctor!" and "Hold Me Now," which became their signature song and a defining track of the era. The band's name was inspired by the two detectives Thomson and Thompson from the comic strip "The Adventures of Tintin." Despite changes in membership and musical direction over the years, Thompson Twins remain synonymous with the 1980s pop sound and have left a lasting impact on the music of that decade.
