The O'Jays

The O'Jays

Legendary Soul and R&B Vocal Group

The O'Jays are a legendary American R&B group hailing from Canton, Ohio, that became one of the quintessential vocal groups of the 1970s and a hallmark of the Philadelphia soul movement. Originally formed in 1958, the group's most famous lineup consisted of Eddie Levert, Walter Williams, and William Powell. They achieved their greatest successes under the direction of producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff on the Philadelphia International label. The O'Jays are known for their rich harmonies and socially conscious lyrics, with enduring hits like "Love Train," "Back Stabbers," and "Use Ta Be My Girl." Their music has been characterized by its powerful vocals and infectious rhythms, which have earned them multiple chart-topping singles and albums. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005, solidifying their status as icons in the music industry. Over the years, they have continued to perform and release new music, including their 2019 album "The Last Word," which they announced would be their final studio album.
