Freddie Mercury was a British singer-songwriter and the lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. Born Farrokh Bulsara on September 5, 1946, in Zanzibar (now part of Tanzania), he moved to England in his teens. Mercury formed Queen in 1970 with guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, with bassist John Deacon joining shortly after. Known for his flamboyant stage persona and powerful vocals, Mercury wrote numerous hits for Queen, including "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Somebody to Love," "Don't Stop Me Now," and "We Are the Champions." His dynamic performances and unique vocal range made him one of the most popular and influential frontmen in rock music history.
