Conway Twitty, born Harold Lloyd Jenkins on September 1, 1933, was an American country music singer. He initially enjoyed some success in rock and roll, R&B, and pop music before turning to country music in the late 1960s where he had a string of hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Twitty was known for his rich, smooth voice and for his prolific recording career, which included a number of duets with country singer Loretta Lynn. Over the course of his career, Conway Twitty achieved a substantial number of chart-topping singles, including "Hello Darlin'," "Tight Fittin' Jeans," and "You've Never Been This Far Before." His influence on the genre was significant, and he was inducted into both the Country Music and Rockabilly Halls of Fame. Conway Twitty passed away on June 5, 1993, leaving behind a legacy as one of country music's most enduring artists.
