Antonín Dvořák

Antonín Dvořák

Czech Romantic-era Composer

Antonín Dvořák was a Czech composer who is regarded as one of the major figures of nationalism in music during the late 19th century. Born on September 8, 1841, in Nelahozeves, Bohemia (now the Czech Republic), Dvořák demonstrated his musical talents early in life and went on to study music in Prague. His work was infused with the folk music of Moravia and his native Bohemia. Dvořák's compositions include symphonies, chamber music, operas, choral music, and concerti, but he is best known for his Symphony No.9 in E Minor "From the New World," which was composed in 1893 during his time in the United States. This symphony was a reflection of his experience with American culture and landscape, as well as his longing for his homeland.
