MAINTENANCE OF PLATES AND TRANSFERS

Probably everyone knows the crackling sound when playing phonograph records. Its
cause is often blamed on the age of the records. In most cases, however,
it is a dirty record or a dirty cartridge. The cracking is caused by
dirt and dust attracted to the surface of the record by static
electricity.
To clean the surfaces of phonograph records, use
Thorens cleaner. It removes dirt from the surface and removes the record's
electrostatic charge, reducing the rate at which dirt builds up on
its surface.
A clean, high-quality sound is ensured by a clean stylus. When the
sound quality and clarity of the sound being played is no longer good, it is necessary to clean the stylus tip.
Dirtying the stylus tip is shown in the illustrations.
The cleaning of the transducers is done with Thorens cleaner, which
dissolves the deposits around the needle tip.
A special brush, also offered by Thorens, is then used to remove the dissolved deposit from the tip.
The contamination to which the records and the pickups are exposed significantly reduces their
life and consequently the sound quality. The picture shows a detail of the wear on the groove of a
turntable record.
