Wounds

Wounds

Punk, Hardcore, Noise band from Dublin, Ireland Shortly after forming WOUNDS, guitarist James Coogan suffered a near fatal accident after plunging from a fourth floor balcony, while his brother, WOUNDS vocalist, Aidan, looked on in horror. Miraculously, James survived the fall, though his life would never be the same. He lost sight in one eye, had to undergo facial reconstructive surgery, and was told he would never be able to play guitar again. While the Coogan brothers attempted to piece their lives back together, they were dealt another blow; their father passed away. To deal with this tragedy, Aidan found solace in writing “Dead Road.” Both the fall and family death served as a catalyst to James’ new perspective on life. “The accident was a real wake up call for me. In a split second, it felt like everything had been taken from me,” recalls James. He found himself rededicated to music, and despite a grim diagnosis, was able to fully regain the use of his arms. “It changed me from being this drunken, messy kid. Now I want to take everything by the throat.” The Coogan’s found inspiration in the face of adversity, and together, fired back with Die Young. Ferocious energy, punk ethos, and an unpredictably dangerous atmosphere define WOUNDS live show. The quartets’ style has been compared to the likes of The Stooges, Black Flag, and Refused, while the lyrical content has a particular heaviness that Nick Cave would appreciate. The band has received acclaim from Kerrang!, Punktastic, Terrorizer, and have also been featured in Alternative Press’ “100 Bands You Need to Know” issue.
