Czech Conductor and Musician

Václav Smetáček (1906–1986) was a prominent Czech conductor, composer, and oboist. He is best known for his long tenure as the principal conductor of the Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK), a position he held from 1942 to 1972. Under his leadership, the orchestra gained international recognition and became one of the leading ensembles in Czechoslovakia. Smetáček was also a respected pedagogue, teaching at the Prague Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
