Tower Of Power

Tower Of Power

Iconic American Funk and Soul Band

Tower of Power is an American R&B-based horn section and band, originating from Oakland, California, that has been performing since 1968. The group is known for their powerful brass section and unique blend of soul, funk, jazz, and rock music. Tower of Power has released numerous albums throughout their extensive career, with a discography that includes classics like their self-titled album "Tower of Power" (1973), which features one of their biggest hits, "What Is Hip?" as well as "In The Slot" (1975). Over the years, they have undergone various lineup changes but have consistently been led by founding members Emilio Castillo (tenor saxophone) and Stephen "Doc" Kupka (baritone saxophone), who are also the primary songwriters. The band celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special performance captured in the live album "50 Years Of Funk & Soul: Live At The Fox Theater-Oakland Ca-June 2018," showcasing their enduring appeal and musicianship. Tower of Power's influence extends beyond their own recordings; they have also been sought after as a session group, contributing to recordings for other artists across different genres.
