Swing And Sway With Sammy Kaye

Swing And Sway With Sammy Kaye

Big Band Leader and Musician Sammy Kaye

"Sweet" American dance band. Around 1935, when Sammy Kaye and his orchestra aired their show live from the Cabin Club in Cleveland over the radio, he came up with the slogan “Swing and Sway with Sammy Kaye" that the show's host then used to announce Kaye's orchestra. The name stuck at once. From then on until shortly before Kaye's death, his band was known as "Swing and Sway with Sammy Kaye". While jazz critics like George T. Simon looked down on Kaye's "mickey-mouse music", his band's sweet sound, characterized by "singing titles", a heavy emphasis on vocals, and the almost complete absence of instrumental solos, was commercially successful over several decades. The band recorded more than 1,300 titles. First releases were in 1937 on the Vocalion (2) label, but as early as 1938, after it hit the number 1 on the Billboard charts with "Rosalie" (Vocalion (2) 3700) and "Love Walked In" (Vocalion (2) 4017), the Kaye band was picked up by Victor.
