Sanford Clark

Sanford Clark

Rockabilly and Country Music Singer-Songwriter

Sanford Clark (born October 24, 1935, Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA – died July 4, 2021, Joplin, Missouri, USA) was an American country-rockabilly singer and guitarist. Clark found fleeting fame with his rendition of the Lee Hazlewood-penned song "The Fool" in 1956, which peaked in the Top Ten of the pop charts and Top 15 of the country charts, but was his only significant hit. After the success of "The Fool" he began a promotional tour opening for stars such as Ray Price and Roy Orbison, but after a string of recordings which failed to perform well, Clark gave up on professional musicianship and instead ran a successful construction business for most of his life. Sanford continued to occasionally distribute music through his Desert Sun record label following his departure from the music business.
