Sándor Veress

Sándor Veress

Hungarian Classical Composer and Ethnomusicologist

Sándor Veress was a Hungarian composer, ethnomusicologist, and teacher who made significant contributions to 20th-century music. Born on February 1, 1907, in Kolozsvár, which was then part of Austria-Hungary (now Cluj-Napoca, Romania), Veress was deeply influenced by his Hungarian heritage and the folk music traditions of his homeland. He studied under notable composers such as Zoltán Kodály and Béla Bartók at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest.
