Robbie Basho

Robbie Basho

American Acoustic Guitar Pioneer and Visionary Folk Musician

Robbie Basho was an American acoustic guitarist, singer, and composer whose work was pivotal in the development of the American Primitive Guitar genre. Born as Daniel R. Robinson Jr. on August 31, 1940, he later adopted the stage name "Basho" to honor the Japanese poet Matsuo Bashō. He was a contemporary of guitarists such as John Fahey and Leo Kottke and was known for his innovative fingerstyle guitar playing which incorporated elements of folk, blues, classical music, and Indian raga.
