Pig Destroyer

Pig Destroyer

American grindcore band

Pig Destroyer is an American grindcore band formed in 1997 in Alexandria, Virginia. The band was founded by guitarist Scott Hull, vocalist J.R. Hayes, and drummer John Evans (later replaced by Adam Jarvis). Known for their aggressive musical style and provocative lyrics, Pig Destroyer has become one of the most influential bands in the grindcore and extreme metal scenes. They have released several albums that have been well-received within the metal community, including "Prowler in the Yard" (2001), "Terrifyer" (2004), and "Phantom Limb" (2007). Their sound often incorporates elements of death metal, noise, and sludge, with lyrical themes that explore dark and complex subject matter. Pig Destroyer's album "Book Burner" was released in 2012, followed by "Head Cage" in 2018, which showcased a slight shift towards a more groove-oriented and industrial sound. The band's name is a nod to their anti-authoritarian stance, with "pig" being a pejorative term for police officers and "destroyer" indicating their opposition to societal control mechanisms.
