Orchester Wiener Akademie

Orchester Wiener Akademie

Austrian Period Instrument Orchestra

The Orchester Wiener Akademie is an Austrian orchestra that specializes in historically informed performances using period instruments. Founded in 1985 by its conductor and artistic director Martin Haselböck, the ensemble is known for its interpretations of classical and romantic repertoire, as well as for performing lesser-known works. The orchestra often collaborates with renowned soloists and has made numerous recordings. One of their ambitious projects is the "Re-Sound Beethoven" series, which aims to record all of Beethoven's symphonies using period instruments in the venues for which they were originally written or first performed, thus providing a unique historical and acoustic perspective. The Orchester Wiener Akademie has gained international acclaim for its authentic sound and has contributed significantly to the field of historically informed performance practice.
