Nikolai Miaskowsky

Nikolai Miaskowsky

Russian Classical Composer and Symphonist

Nikolai Yakovlevich Myaskovsky (also spelled Miaskovsky or Miaskowsky) was a significant Russian and Soviet composer, often referred to as the "father of the Soviet symphony." Born on April 20, 1881, in Novogeorgievsk (now Modlin Fortress in Poland), he became one of the most prolific and respected composers of his time. Myaskovsky was a contemporary and friend of Sergei Prokofiev and taught many prominent Soviet composers, including Dmitri Kabalevsky and Aram Khachaturian.
