Italian Bass Opera Singer

Nicola Rossi-Lemeni (1920–1991) was a prominent Italian bass opera singer known for his powerful voice and dramatic presence. Born in Istanbul to an Italian father and a Russian mother, he studied in Milan and debuted in 1946 at the Teatro alla Scala. Rossi-Lemeni quickly gained international recognition, performing at major opera houses across Europe and the Americas. His repertoire was extensive, including roles in operas by Verdi, Bellini, and Mussorgsky, among others. He was particularly noted for his portrayals of title characters in "Don Giovanni" and "Boris Godunov." In addition to his stage career, Rossi-Lemeni also made several recordings of operatic works, which may include performances in "Don Carlos," "Norma," and "La Forza Del Destino," showcasing his versatility as a bass. His marriage to soprano Virginia Zeani added to his fame as part of an opera power couple. After retiring from the stage, he taught voice, sharing his expertise with the next generation of singers.
