Mortification is an Australian Christian extreme metal band that was formed in 1990. They are considered pioneers in the Christian death metal and thrash metal genres, and have been influential in the Christian metal movement. The band was founded by bassist and vocalist Steve Rowe, who is also the primary songwriter, and they have gone through numerous lineup changes throughout their career. Mortification's lyrical themes often revolve around Christianity and spiritual warfare, and they are known for their aggressive musical style that incorporates elements of death metal, thrash metal, and later on, groove metal.
