British Violin Virtuoso

British violinist and violin teacher, born 15 September 1920 in Mersin, Turkey to Armenian parents, and died 24 December 1987 in Oxford, England, Great Britain. He studied at the Trinity College of Music (1936-1939). He led the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (1947-1948), Philharmonia Orchestra (Joint Leader 1st Violin, 1949-1957), The English Opera Group (1949-1951), and the Yorkshire Sinfonia (1976-1978). Prior to his career as a soloist he also was a concertmaster of The London Philharmonic Orchestra. He served as Musical Director of The Manchester Camerata from 1980 to 1984. Teacher of Violin at the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music, London. Father of Step Parikian. Uncle of Levon Chilingirian.
