Australian Jazz Organist and Vocalist

Lou Bennett was a renowned jazz organist from the United States who later moved to France. Born in 1926, Bennett began his career as a pianist but is most famous for his work on the Hammond B3 organ. He was part of the bebop movement and was influenced by musicians such as Jimmy Smith. In the early 1960s, Bennett moved to Europe, where he found a more appreciative audience for jazz and continued to perform and record with various artists. He became a significant figure in the European jazz scene, especially known for his soulful and innovative approach to the organ. Throughout his career, Bennett collaborated with numerous jazz greats and left behind a legacy that has influenced many organists that followed. He passed away in 1997, leaving a rich discography that continues to be celebrated by jazz enthusiasts.
