Leone Sinigaglia

Leone Sinigaglia

Italian Composer and Mountaineer

Leone Sinigaglia (1868–1944) was an Italian composer and ethnomusicologist. Born in Turin, he was a student of renowned composers such as Cesare Dominiceti and Giovanni Bolzoni in his native city, before moving to Vienna to study with Arnold Schoenberg. Sinigaglia was particularly known for his chamber music and orchestral works, which often incorporated elements of Italian folk music, a testament to his interest in ethnomusicology. He collected and transcribed numerous folk tunes from the Piedmont region, which influenced his compositional style.
